20 Meters Wiped Out

20 Meters is being wiped out tonight (broadcast centered on 14.375 0500Z, January 5th, 2013).

Anybody know what it is wiping out 20 Meters as I speak?  The broadcast started at 0500Z.

The AM broadcast is centered on 14.375 with huge hash spurs up and down every 50 Kc (with smaller hash spurs in between).  I attached a link to a recording I just took below.  The "every 50 Kc hash spurs" are 25 over 9 all up and down 14 MHz, not just our Ham band!

I have no idea what the hell it is, but it is peaking for me at 115-120 degrees from Colorado. And a HUGE PEAK it is at 40db+ over 9. A gal keeps reciting numbers in Spanish every minute or so and then every so often she reads a long string (I mean a looooong string) of numbers.

20 Meter Broadcast Transmission (numbers start at :40)

Thoughts?  What, where, why?

If it's Cuba or Mexico, I'd hate to see their power bill for this multi-megawatt transmission....

UPDATED: 0655Z and it just stopped, just this very minute.  Over, done, just like that.  2 friggin' hours of total and complete 14 MHz wipe out, swell.

      Hi Wayne !
I think this is a telemetry station from Cuba or one of the nearby countries. The text data being transmitted is too random and there is also modem data being transmitted after the voice. Maybe powerline telemetry, or some sort of coded tx.
I’ll try to find more about it, and see if i can get the data in the digital tx.
73 all the best my friend.

The broadcast was LOUD and annoying. Walt seemed to think it could have been Miami. That was indeed in my beam path at 120 degrees. Keith also pinned the heading that way too. I’m curious to know what the numbers were all about. It appears to be some kind of code between digital transmissions. Keep us posted.

I thought that stuff slowed down after the cold war and the woodpecker lit up…
