SV2ASP/A Mount Athos on 17M

Some readers may remember my Blog post where I wasn't quite 100% sure if I had worked SV2ASP/A Monk Apollo from Mount Athos on 10 Meters last year.  Read post.

It turns out that I did work him, I was in his log, and I did get his QSL card a month later for an all time new one (ATNO).  But this post is about this morning on 17 Meters.

I saw the DX Cluster spot for SV2ASP/A on 17 Meters this morning, and even though I don't have a 17 Meter beam, I had some luck previously loading up the KT-34XA tribander on 17 with a tuner so I figured why not try it again?  I took a listen for Monk Apollo, and I also took a listen on his receive frequency and of course, it was a mob scene.  But, you never know until you try, right?  I must be living right.  The QRM "parted" and his signal peaked...

Here's the recording:  N0UN working SV2ASP/A on 17 Meters December 31, 2012.

Pretty cool to snag him on the last day of 2012.

2012's been a good year.  Here's hoping 2013 is even better!  73

I was also able to work him tonight on 40m , 7.150. I surely hope this was not a pirate. I hope there are other recordings out there to compare audio with, thanks for posting this! I also found the amazing documentary on Mt Athos . I hope you have also seen it.

I did find this youtube video of him. He operated the same way, with the same voice and the same style of technique. So I am elated to have further evidence of my QSO with Monk Apollo. I am beyond happy. Thanks for blogging about it
