Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad

Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad. Who remembers that song by Meatloaf?

KP5/NP3VI Desecheo - Two Out of Three Ain't BadWell, IF (a BIG IF) these two planned “expeditions” to KP5/NP3VI Desecheo and 3G0XQ San Ambrosio get on the air in HUMAN MODES in a couple weeks I have a chance at increasing my DXCC totals by TWO from 337 to 339 in January, 2026.

That will leave me with needing only KH7 Kure to have worked them all and put my stamp on #1 Honor Roll. “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” me thinks.

Of course if they only get on FT8 I’ll still need 3 because there is ZERO chance I’ll use that lazy, mindless, computer scripted text messaging software. And remember all you Trolls that bootleg my call on FT8, that means for every so-called Q you work with my pirated callsign, that’s one less worthless Q some undeserving FT8er doesn’t get! You’re shooting yourselves in the foot – and that’s fine with me!

3G0XQ San Ambrosio Project - Two Out of Three Ain't BadIf either of these two “expeditions” run better than 50% SSB and CW (combined) I’ll call them a DXpedition. Less than 50%? Just another lazy, mindless, automated computer scripted TXTpedition.

Don’t even get me going with the thought that there won’t be a single operator physically on premise at one (or both) of these stations.

We shall soon see if there’s going to be some good old-fashioned DX pile-ups, or a slew of bad new-fashioned lazy, mindless, automated computer scripted software text messaging tones.

    January 6, 2026 from Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin:

    3G0XQ — San Ambrosio Island (CE0X – San Felix)

From few different sources (edited by OPDX):

Felipe, XQ7IR, is reportedly on his way to San Ambrosio. He is expected
to take a charter flight from Santiago to Juan Fernandez Island (CE0Z),
January 9th or possibly 10th. He hopes to have landing authorization by
by the 5th, where he will then load the gear onto a boat for San Ambrosio.
Reports state that he plans to share videos via Starlink of his voyage to
be shared with the DX community.

I was an early advocate for FT8, when it was just another mode and part of the mix. In retrospect, it was a huge mistake and I regret it. I never would have imagined what happened to CW operations. Now that FT8 has eaten DXing alive, I haven’t even turned on the rig since Glorioso. Lesson learned: sometimes progress isn’t.

Thanks for the info Wayne, these will be two to watch. I was looking at the KP5 website and you’re right , I couldn’t find any station info, equipment list or plan….why is this info such a secret? I guess time will tell…..

      AJ,

KP5 came out of nowhere. I guess they have to do that because there are idiots that try to interfere. Whether from jealousy, competing expeditioneers or they have nothing better to do I’m getting the feeling you can’t say anything anymore. Just got to go unannounced and do it. Look at how some have been trying to get Bouvet canceled! Even so far to call and write the licensing authorities!

      Crazy.

While I do need both of these for ATNO’s Lumpy, I have to agree with you. It seems that the word lazy has gotten to be synonymous with the title of ham radio operator these days.

Hope all is well with you Brother, Thanks for doing what you do and have a Happy New Year.
