3Y0L Peter I Island 2027

3Y0L Peter I Island3Y0L Peter I Island 2027.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “Are You Ready For Some DX?” As we just witnessed with the HUGE Bouvet 3Y0K Pileups, real DXing is for the deserving. Showing up to a gunfight with a water pistol doesn’t cut it. The Internet is full of folks after the fact who are crying the blues they didn’t make the 3Y0K log. Over 102,000 Q’s with beams & amplifiers tells me the Bouvet Team went way out of their way to create a signal to get folks in their logs. And they did it on every band and mode! The 3Y0K Team spent weeks upon weeks away from home and survived unbelievable harsh physical & mental conditions in the Antarctic to put on their show and get you in their log. So now I have to ask, “what did you do to increase your odds of making their log?”

Did you put up a new antenna? Maybe increase your power level(s)? Fine tune resonance on that long wire? Move your work schedule around a bit? The good news with the 3Y0L Peter I Island Expedition is you have some time to get your plan & station in order. With the 3Y0L Expedition scheduled for February of next year you have this Spring, Summer and Fall to get some aluminum and RF in the air. Best get with it!

And for all you Naysayers (like VK0LD Alan Chesire and his sockpuppets) that said LA7GIA’s Bouvet would NEVER happen? Well, last time I looked Ken and his Team(s) have now done it TWICE! That’s TWO times more than anybody else. Ken has proven time and time again he doesn’t need to justify anything to anybody. His reputation stands on his record of successful activations. Maybe (just maybe) somewhere along the line you Naysayers have figured out you’re just making yourselves look like imbeciles? Step aside and give it a rest Naysayers, your constant attempts at scuttling his expeditions aren’t good for our hobby. We can only hope you quit, right?

In the meantime I can’t wait to hear you real DXers in those thunderous 3Y0L “Human Mode” pileups next year AND in every pileup in between!

Just looked at the ClubLog Livestream list….and it’s sad. First column is the DX….2nd column is the % FT8 they’re working. Pathetic…………I just listed a few I just captured….the top of the list…..the list is of course, much longer………..

    3X3A 92%
    TL8GD 100%
    TJ1GD 100%
    A92AE 100%
    OX3LX 100%
    7Q7EB 100%
    D2UY 100%
    ZF2OO 0%
    EK/RX3DPK 100%
    HP1LAQ 100%
    4L3YL 100%
    KP2BH 100%
    VU2OR 100%
    VU2WJ 100%
    CN8NS 100%
    9K2KO 0%
    9K2ES 0%
    HI8O 100%
    HI3NLER 100%
    DS4AKP 100%
    XE2SSB 100%
    HK3BJB 100%
    CX6TU 100%
    CX2SA 50%
    CX1CW 100%
    CA6SNT 100%
    CA2HFW 100%
    CE2EC 100%

And the list goes on and on like that. So, so sad. Kudos to the FEW that work ZERO FT8….but they’re far and few between. Even only a handful of 50% ones. The VAST majority….are working 100% FT8.

When people argue with me about FT8 and say I’m an FT8 Hater….or FT8 “Racist”….I counter with….look….if it was a mode that some worked…and those that want to can…and those that don’t want to…can skip it (like Slow Scan TV, Satellite, FM, AM, UHF, RTTY, etc, etc), I wouldn’t “foam at the mouth” over it so much. The problem is what we keep pointing out here and on other sites that talk about the issue. The ISSUE….and the reason it’s ruining Ham radio….ESPECIALLY from a DXer’s standpoint….is that it’s become the “easy way out” defacto standard for DXpeditions. I can remember a few years ago….I needed VU7 for an ATNO. There was a DXpedition going there…and I was excited I’d finally get a chance to add that ATNO. And then they worked…..100% FT8. So NO, I did NOT get a chance to work that DXpedition. Thankfully, within a half a year…another Team went and worked a great deal of SSB and cw. And I finally got VU7.

But again, that’s the issue with FT8. It’s not “just another mode”, it’s become a defacto mode for lazy Hams and DXpeditions….depriving those who want to work REAL radio of a chance to work the DX!

It’s embarrassing this lazy, automated computer scripted text messaging app passes for Ham Radio these days.

These FT8ers are all lazy pretenders, nothing more. They are surely not “communicators”.

I stick by what I said years ago. https://www.n0un.net/the-big-ft8-money-grab/

I travel the country for my job and had to schedule some PTO in order to be there when 3Y0K would be on. Had to do a couple reschedules due to their delays. However, I was able to be there when they were on. I flew in on March 7 and my first opportunity at home to try began at 1200z on March 8. Worked them at 1317z on 12m SSB for my #336. Was back on a plane 5 days later and back to work. Got the one contact I wanted.

Worked Peter I on the last trip 20 years ago on 5 bands. Doubtful I will get into the fray for this one unless I wish to practice my pileup skills.

So am I. My only QSO was on 12m SSB. 100w to an 80m dipole.

Good on reaching 338. I’m at 336 now. All SSB.

And for the FT8 folks, why not ….in addition to maybe trying to put up a better antenna or improve your station (if possible) over the next year….in addition….spend the next year working some cw and/or SSB and improving your operating skills. I know lots of “little pistols” that have honed their operating skills by practice, practice….and guess what, they bust some pileups too. Sure, they MIGHT have to work at it a LITTLE harder….sometimes….but with good skills, they can still prevail and work the rare DX. But you have to actually operate some….and practice….on “real” radio….to improve your skills. Though I’d love to hear a debate of how working FT8 improves your operating skills…………..

Anyway, I’m looking forward to working these guys again. While Peter 1 Island won’t be an ATNO for me like Bouvet was (got them on 8 band slots….wish I would have done just a little better, but it sure wasn’t for lack of trying), it is still one I have only worked on a limited number of band slots. So I look forward to improving my band slot count for that rare one!

Anyway, until Peter 1 Island is on the air, there is plenty of other stuff to work to hone those skills. Like S21WD, TY5FR….you know….the list goes on and on. Just gotta’ get on the air….and work em’!

See you on the air on cw or SSB…..or in my case, not at all……………

FT8ers are lazy and socially inept. They’re like video gamers – stuck in Mommy’s basement with underdeveloped social skills. No idea how to actually communicate with others. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least some FT8ers may be prospective school shooters.
